Please note that election results may take up to 30 days to be finalized. The election is scheduled to be certified by the San Mateo County Elections Division on December 3, 2020.
November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election Details
The next General Municipal Election for the City of Pacifica will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. This will be the first election in the City of Pacifica held with a district-based system for the election of members of the City Council. Under a district-based elections system, voters will elect a City Council Member based on the district in which the voter and candidates are registered to vote. City Council seats in Districts 1 and 4 will be up for election in the November 2020 election.

District Elections

Only residents in District 1 and District 4 will have City Council candidates appearing on their ballots for this November 2020 Election.

Candidates may withdraw, but not change their candidate statements. A candidate may withdraw their candidate statement no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 10, 2020.
10-day public review period of candidate statements begins at 5:00 p.m. on August 7, 2020 and ends at 5:00 p.m. on August 17, 2020.

Information for Individuals Seeking Office
The San County Elections Office offered two dates for candidate seminars for the November 3, 2020 Election: Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 10 a.m. and Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19, these candidate seminars were conducted online via Microsoft Teams. Visit the San Mateo County Elections Division – Elections webpage for more information and/or to register for one of the candidate seminar dates.
The nomination period for election to the office of City Council Member will be during business hours from Monday, July 13, 2020 through Friday, August 7, 2020. Nomination papers for the office of City Council will be available after 8:30 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2020 by contacting the City Clerk at (650) 738-7307 or by email to coffeys@ci.pacifica.ca.us. Individuals seeking nomination papers must schedule an appointment with the City Clerk.
The filing period for write-in candidates is September 7, 2020 through 5:00 p.m. on October 20, 2020. Write-in candidates must obtain paperwork from the City Clerk to file Write-In Nomination Papers, the Statements of Write-In Candidacy and other required filing documents between these dates. Write-in candidates are not allowed to choose a ballot designation or file a candidate statement.

Voter Information
Sample Ballot and Voter Information Pamphlet will be mailed to every registered voter in San Mateo County on September 24, 2020. This information is also available online at www.smcvote.org.
Ballots for the November 3, 2020 Election will be mailed to all registered voters beginning October 5, 2020. Visit www.smcvote.org for more information about voter registration, to sign up to track your ballot by email / text / phone and for a full listing of Vote Centers and Ballot Drop Off locations in San Mateo County.
Vote Centers in Pacifica
There will be two 4-day Vote Centers located in Pacifica, open October 31 to November 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m and on November 3 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.:
- Pacifica City Council Chambers, 2212 Beach Boulevard, Pacifica
- St. Peter Parish, 700 Oddstad Boulevard, Pacifica
A Ballot Drop Box will be located outside of Pacifica City Hall at 170 Santa Maria Blvd. Pickups by the San Mateo County Elections Division from the ballot drop box at City Hall are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Voters can visit any of the 45 Vote Centers located throughout the County for in-person voting and voter services. Three Vote Centers will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning October 5. For a complete listing of Vote Center locations and availability, visit www.smcvote.org. (Vote Centers will be closed on Columbus Day, Monday, October 12, 2020.)
If you choose to vote at a Vote Center, it is recommended that you do so during the Early Voting Period to avoid the long lines that are expected on Election Day. If you vote on Election Day, check our wait time widget on www.smcvote.org to find a Vote Center near you with the shortest wait time.
All Vote Centers comply with San Mateo County Health Department and CDC COVID-19 safety standards. Voters are expected to wear masks and adhere to all social distancing requirements. Vote Centers will be equipped with plexiglass at service counters. Voting machines and equipment, including all facilities, will be regularly sanitized.

A New Voting Service Available to All Registered Voters

- Print a ballot from any computer with internet access and a printer
- Access computers with screen readers, screen magnifiers and printers at the Registration & Elections Division - 40 Tower Road, San Mateo
