Note that Election Results take thirty days from the election date to finalize and certify. The tallies reported via the link above are preliminary counts and updates from the San Mateo County Elections Division during the process of counting ballots cast / received. The results are certified no later than 30 days following the election.
November 5, 2024 Municipal Election Details
The next General Municipal Election for the City of Pacifica will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The City of Pacifica has a district-based system for election of members of the City Council. Under a district-based elections system, voters will elect a City Council Member based on the district in which the voter and candidates are registered to vote. City Council seats in Districts 1 and 4 will be up for election in the November 2024 election.

Information for Individuals Seeking Office
Candidate Seminar Dates
The San Mateo County Elections Office offers two dates for candidate seminars (online format via Microsoft Teams) for the November 5, 2024 Election: Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 10 a.m. and Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 10 a.m. Visit the San Mateo County Elections Division – Elections webpage for Candidates & Measures for more information and/or to register for one of the candidate seminar dates. Nomination Period
The nomination period for election to the offices of City Council Member will be during business hours from Monday, July 15, 2024 through 1:30pm on Friday, August 9, 2024. In the event that an eligible incumbent does not file by 1:30pm on August 9, the candidate filing period for that office will be extended to 5:00pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. The extended filing period is not applicable where there is no incumbent eligible to be elected.
For District 4, as of August 9, 2024, no eligible incumbent has filed for candidacy. The nomination period for City Council District 4 was extended to 5:00pm on Wednesday, August 14.
Nomination papers for the office of City Council will be available after 8:30 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2024 by contacting the City Clerk at (650) 738-7307 or by email to scoffey@pacifica.gov .
Individuals seeking nomination papers must request to schedule an appointment with the City Clerk by submitting the Request for Candidate Nomination Documents Form by email to scoffey@pacifica.gov.
Candidates may withdraw, but not change their candidate statements. A candidate may withdraw their candidate statement no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 2024. The 10-day candidate / measure document public review period begins at 5:00 p.m. on August 9, 2024 and ends at 5:00 p.m. on August 19, 2024. During this period, if the filed materials are found to be misleading or inaccurate, the statement can be challenged.
The filing period for write-in candidates is September 9, 2024 through 5:00 p.m. on October 22, 2024. Write-in candidates must obtain paperwork from the City Clerk to file Write-In Nomination Papers, the Statements of Write-In Candidacy and other required filing documents between these dates. Write-in candidates are not allowed to choose a ballot designation or file a candidate statement.

At a regular meeting of the City Council held on July 8, 2024, the City Council of the City of Pacifica adopted Resolution No. 68-2024, calling and giving notice for holding a General Municipal Election to be consolidated with the City's next General Municipal Election on November 5, 2024 and submitting to the electors a Ballot Measure to update the City's Transient Occupancy (Hotel/Lodging) Tax by Increasing to Fifteen Percent (15%) by amending Section 3-7.03 (Tax Imposed) of the Pacifica Municipal Code:

Ballot Language of Measure M - City of Pacifica Transient Occupancy Tax Measure:
Shall an Ordinance updating a transient occupancy tax (paid only by hotel and other short term lodging guests) to a 15% rate to continue funding vital Pacifica services, such as police, fire, 911 emergency response; street/pothole repair; youth/senior programs; adapting to sea-level rise; keeping trash off beaches; and generating approximately $720,000 annually in additional revenue until ended by voters and subject to annual audits, be adopted?

Information for Filing Arguments and Rebuttals - Ballot Measures
Primary Arguments In Favor or Against Local Ballot Measures are due by 5:00PM on August 13, 2024.
Rebuttal Arguments are due by 5:00 PM on August 20, 2024.
Please complete and submit the following Forms to accompany ballot measure arguments:

- FORM_Ballot-Measure-Rebuttal-Argument-Submission (to be submitted with Rebuttal Arguments for Ballot Measure)

Primary Arguments may be submitted by the governing body of the local jurisdiction or any member(s) of the governing body, by any individual voter who is eligible to vote on the measure, or by a bona fide association of citizens. Primary Arguments must be submitted in writing with the Primary Argument Submission Form and an electronic Word version of the Argument should be provided to the City Clerk. Printed primary arguments shall be titled either "Argument in Favor of Measure ____" or "Argument Against Measure ____". No primary argument shall exceed 300 words pursuant to the interpretation of Section 9 of the Elections Code by the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division word count policy.
Rebuttal Arguments: When an argument in favor and an argument against a measure has been selected, the Elections Official will notify the authors of those arguments. The authors of the primary arguments may submit or choose to authorize in writing any other person or person(s) to prepare, submit and sign the Rebuttal Argument. No Rebuttal Arguments must be submitted in writing with the Rebuttal Argument Submission Form and an electronic Word version of the Argument should be provided to the City Clerk. Printed rebuttal arguments shall be titled either "Rebuttal to Argument in Favor of Measure ____" or "Rebuttal to Argument Against Measure ____". No rebuttal argument shall exceed 250 words pursuant to the interpretation of Section 9 of the Elections Code by the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division word count policy. If the person(s) preparing and submitting the rebuttal argument are different from the authors of the primary argument, the Authorization Form for Change in Signers must be submitted.
Argument authors should submit a hard copy of the Argument and an electronic copy in Word format. The Word version may be emailed to the City Clerk at scoffey@pacifica.gov. However, if there is a discrepancy between the hard copy and the Word version, the hard copy version will prevail.

Voter Information
The San Mateo County Elections Official will mail the County Sample Ballot & Official Voter Information Pamphlet to each registered voter in San Mateo County by October 15, 2024. This information is also available online at www.smcvote.gov.
The County Elections Official will begin mailing ballots for the November 5, 2024 Election to all registered voters no later than October 7, 2024.
