The City of Pacifica's Aquatics Division offers a variety of American Red Cross certified training courses.

Lifeguarding Classes

Instruction in proper water rescue skills, how to recognize a water emergency and responsibilities/ training in lifeguards. Successful completion of the lifeguarding course yields an American Red Cross certificate in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, oxygen administration and preventative disease transmission.

Prerequisites: Applicants must be at least 15 years old by the first day of training. Applicants also must perform the following: 300yard (12 laps) continuous swim test; 100-yard front crawl with rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick; 100-yard breaststroke; surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10LB object, return to the surface and swim 20-yards back to the starting point and exit the water without help of a ladder in 1minute and 40 seconds.

Course Completion: In order to successfully complete the course, participants must attend all classes, pass all practical skill tests and pass all written exams.

Registration: Online class #80.361 or at the Parks, Beaches and Recreation office located at 540 Crespi Drive in Pacifica.

Fees: Lifeguard training fees are $195.00 for Pacifica residents and $200.00 for non-residents.

Location: Jean Brink Pool in Pacifica. 

Instructor: Class instructor will be certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.  

Schedule: All Online modules will be emailed to participants on Friday April 28th.  In-person skills sessions will be held Saturday and Sunday September 2nd-3rd from 8am-5pm at the Jean E. Brink Pool-Oceana High School Campus.  For questions please call 650-738-7460

CPR & First Aid

American Red Cross CPR: Adult/Child/Infant with AED: Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR and use Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. Upon completion participants will receive American Red Cross certification charge. 

Prerequisites: The course is designed for participants aged 13 or older

Standard First Aid

American Red Cross Standard First Aid: Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, give first aid for a variety of injuries such as burns, wounds, bites, head/neck/back injuries and heat/cold related emergencies and manage sudden illnesses such as stroke, seizure/poisoning. Upon completion participants will receive American Red Cross certification charge.

Prerequisites: The course is designed for participants aged 13 or older

Swimmer Aide

Interested working with children, volunteering their time and learning how to teach swimming?

Prerequisites: Must be 11 years of age or older, proficient in swimming and pass our Swimmer Aide training that will be held prior to starting swimming lessons.

Training includes Lifeguarding techniques, First Aide, accident prevention, stroke demonstrations, methods of teaching swimming, techniques for testing and grading.
