Children participate in a range of summer activities at the designated sites, including special events such as the Wild Animal Show, Sterling The Bubblesmith Show, Circus of Smile Show, Kona Ice Truck Visit, and other site-specific programs. Children also have the option of venturing into the community for swim lessons and recreational swimming at the Oceana Pool. In the past summers, large group bus trips included visits to SF Exploratorium, Cull Canyon Lagoon, U.S.S. Pampanito, Palo Alto Children’s Theater, Jungle Fun, Oakland Zoo, and a barbecue at Frontierland Park.

The Child Care programs have four sites open during the summer—Cabrillo, Vallemar, Ocean Shore, and Sunset Ridge. Daily activities follow the weekly themes. Special center events include on-site assemblies and small group field trips. Each year, themes are planned based on the children's interests. Some of the themes from our past summers were 'Teamwork Will Get You There,' 'Kaboom,' 'Pandora’s Box,' 'Octopus Garden,' and 'Wild and Wacky."

Summer Programs 3

Children who enroll in our before and/or after-school program will automatically participate in our summer programs. We do not offer summer-only enrollment.

During our summer programs, we provide free or reduced-cost childcare. Funding for the subsidized component comes from the California Department of Education, which also establishes the eligibility requirements for the program.
